On-site Optimization

You wouldn't expect to look high up on the SERP to get a word or phrase that will doesn't appear very often or never
on your website. Consequently, in order to get the attention of the search engines, we must ensure that our key
words and phrases actually appear on your website. This will unfortunately involve some tweaks or even re-writes
associated with pages or articles so as to thread these keywords and phrases into the website. There are several
areas where these keywords and phrases should appear. Examples are: - Page Content which include articles - Page
Descriptions - the text that appears in the superior of your browser whenever you visit a website. This is also used in
some yahoo in the search results. This information is increased using "meta tags" which are hidden in the page source
code. If the page is editable with a content management system (CMS) they are able to usually be edited immediately
- Keywords - Also hidden in meta tags and used by some search engines - URLs - marketing promotions campaigns to
have a page named "... /strategic-asset-management. html" as compared to "... /page2. html Once again there are
actually tools to help test the relevance of a page in terms of keywords and phrases. This is an iterative process and
to some extent trial and error. The key thing is to keep the language as natural as possible whilst using the key words
as often as probable - without going over the top. Too much keyword density can lead to search engines such as
Google removing a site from their index, when it suspects foul enjoy.

Off-Site Optimization

Google uses a voting system to rank websites and pages in order of importance when deciding which pages to show
others in terms of the SERP. It is not the case that the site with more keywords gets to the superior. It all depends
on what important and relevant your site is for those keywords in the opinion of the google search. The specific
algorithms as used by search engines are trade secrets and are always being refined, but generally Google works as
follows: Each link back to your page on your website counts as a vote. You could therefore argue that this more links
you enjoy the better and this is actually partly true. However, Google is in addition interested in how relevant that
link is. It can tell in the event the website linking to your own property has similar key words and phrases which is
therefore more relevant. Finally, if the website containing the back link has a high Page Rank intimately related to
adds weight. For case, if the BBC and also Times Online (High Page rank) ran an post on Social Housing and had the
link social housing to an internet site about social housing, this could increase the importance of that site for that key
word. Therefore, it is not so much the number of links that counts as the quality and relevance of the links. That said,
better quality and relevant links you have, the higher up you will definately get. There is one last thing to say about
back links. There are some one-way links you don't want to have. For example, just being a back link from that BBC
carries weight, a hyperlink from some black-listed sites will damage your ranks. Google know that a few disreputable
"black hat" WEBSITE POSITIONING consultants trade links to boost their rankings. Once Google discovers a really site
(or someone reports a really site), the site can be removed from its catalog.
